It’s January 20th of 2017 and there is a high probability that most people that made New Year’s resolutions at the beginning of the year have already broken those resolutions. The problem…

A lack of faithfulness in following through with what they committed to doing.

In 1 Samuel chapter 1 we are told of the story of Elkanah and his wife Hannah. The Bible tells us that Hannah was childless and that this condition broke her heart to the point of weeping and fasting. After many years of depression and heartache, Hannah found herself at rock bottom and began to cry out to the Lord. Her prayer:

“Lord of Hosts, if You will take notice of Your servant’s affliction, remember and not forget me, and give Your servant a son, I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and his hair will never be cut.” (1 Samuel 1:11)

Have you ever found yourself at rock bottom or in a position where you cried out to God?

Have you ever made promises to God in those moments? EX. God if you will just answer this prayer I will *INSERT PROMISE HERE*

Have you always kept those promises?

If you continue to read this story you will find that God would answer Hannah’s prayer and blessed her with a son named Samuel (1 Samuel 1:20). We can only imagine the joy that Hannah would feel holding that baby boy in her arms after years of heartbreak and disappointment. With such a miracle now in her arms, the question became, would Hannah be faithful in her promise to God?

Amazingly, the answer was yes!

“26 and she said to him, “Pardon me, my lord. As surely as you live, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the Lord. 27 I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. 28 So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there. (1 Samuel 26:28)

God may we always exhibit faithfulness in our commitments to those around us and especially in our commitments to you. God we love you and we thank you for Jesus and what he has done for us!
